Hi Pets Haven friends

Welcome back to 10 small dog breeds to consider for your family. This month’s dog breed is the Cockapoo. The kids and I came really close to buying one through a lovely dog breeder based in Bradford: Tinyshires Ltd.

I will discuss in this blog why we didn’t go through with it, and what checks I did to know that they were a genuine registered breeder check my next blog Your Forever Puppy.  Before I came across them I contacted two other breeders, but the checks I made did not add up. But that is for a future blog.

Now, we will still adopt a cockapoo if one becomes available for the right price. I have two teenage girls and having a cute, gorgeous small dog breed is a must. So, a cockapoo pup was definitely on the most-wanted list. Cockapoos are a mix of cocker spaniel and poodle, and the pup we were considering was born on my birthday, so it felt quite like a special dog for me. I believe she will grow to 14 inches in height.  Cockapoos come in different sizes from small to medium, so it is best to ask around if you are looking for a particular size.

The breed is known for being very friendly and is an excellent match for a family with children, but as with all dogs, they should never be left alone with children. (Kids and dogs together should always be supervised). I didn’t look for an adult cockapoo because most adult dogs have separation anxiety issues or bark excessively. This is due to the lack of stimulation and proper training when they are puppies. Having a toddler at home I don’t fancy testing my luck. I want a dog that will stay with us for many years and a cockapoo can live up to 12 to 16 years. It’s a big commitment.

The cockapoo puppy we were interested in is F1. My understanding of that term is that the parents are cocker spaniel and poodle.  Cockapoos are trainable. They have a lovely personalities when well cared for.
